About the School

October 29, 2025. Barnard was awarded a 2025 Bold School by EmpowerK12, one of only 16 public schools in the city to receive the honor. Bold Performance Schools are the DC schools that boldly support priority students — students designated as at-risk, students with disabilities, and students of color — to reach academic success. These 16 incredible schools are proving what's possible, with proficiency rates 19.5 points higher than schools serving similar levels of priority students. They also are improving 3-4x faster than the District average since the pandemic. This award speaks to the incredible power of our school's instructional focus, our warm and caring environment, the quality and support of our teaching and coaching staff, and the leadership of our school principal and assistant principals. Check out the video highlighting what makes Barnard so successful! Barnard offers school tours for prospective families every Thursday at 10:00 am. There is no need to register in advance; simply arrive and check in with the front office and ask for Ms. Montgomery, School Counselor. Tours are offered in English and Spanish.
