The U Street Historic District in Ward 2 — sometimes called the 'Black Broadway' of DC — is one of America's most significant African-American cultural heritage sites, anchored by Howard Theatre, Lincoln Theatre, and the African American Civil War Memorial along the U Street NW corridor. One DCPS school serves the residential population in this dense, mixed-use Ward 2 neighborhood. The U Street-Cardozo Metro station (Green/Yellow lines) provides excellent citywide transit access. Ward 2 residents receive a priority point for Ward 2 schools in the DC lottery.
Ward 2 families can apply to any DC public or charter school through the unified lottery. The application window opens in November at schoolchoice.dc.gov.
