Some schools in Ward 8 serve specific sub-neighborhoods within the ward without a more granular neighborhood designation. Ward 8 in Southeast DC is home to over forty schools across DCPS and charter networks, serving one of DC's largest and most youthful populations east and south of the Anacostia River. DC's equitable access lottery model was specifically designed to ensure Ward 8 families have real pathways to high-quality programs across all eight wards — not limited to what is immediately available in their neighborhood.
Ward 8 families can apply to any DC public or charter school through the unified lottery. The application window opens in November at schoolchoice.dc.gov.
