Shepherd Park is an upper Ward 4 neighborhood along Georgia and Eastern Avenues NW, known as one of DC's first racially integrated communities — a distinction it has maintained through deliberate community effort since the 1950s. One school serves the immediate neighborhood, with the Takoma and Brightwood school networks accessible via Georgia Avenue. The Takoma Metro station (Red line) is within walking distance for many Shepherd Park residents. Ward 4 families receive a priority point for Ward 4 schools in the DC lottery.
Ward 4 families can apply to any DC public or charter school through the unified lottery. The application window opens in November at schoolchoice.dc.gov.
