Central Northeast is a Ward 7 community encompassing the Burrville and Carver-Langston area along the eastern edge of DC, home to four charter schools that serve elementary through middle school grades. Like much of Ward 7, the school landscape here is charter-dominated, with no DCPS neighborhood school serving the immediate Central Northeast boundaries. The charter schools in Central Northeast include both established and newer networks that have chosen this part of Ward 7 for campus expansion, drawn by available real estate and the high concentration of school-age families in the surrounding residential blocks. Programs range from traditional college-prep models to project-based and STEM-focused approaches. Central Northeast connects to the Benning Road and Deanwood Metro stations (Blue/Silver lines) via Metrobus routes along Benning Road NE. The neighborhood is adjacent to the Langdon Park Recreation Center and pool, one of Ward 7's most active community gathering spaces for school-age children during summer months. Ward 7 families receive a priority point for Ward 7 schools. The all-charter landscape in Central Northeast means all school placements go through the November lottery — early application timing is critical, as these schools draw competitive applicant pools from across Wards 5, 6, and 7.
Ward 7 families can apply to any DC public or charter school through the unified lottery. The application window opens in November at schoolchoice.dc.gov.
