Fleet Maintenance
The goal of the Fleet Maintenance department is to provide the safest operating bus fleet possible.
General Information:
- Maintain over 1500 vehicle/Bus fleet
- Operate 19, 29, 36, 71, 77 and 83 passenger buses, as well as 36, 48, 54 and 66 passenger sizes with wheelchair lifts
- Utilize propane, diesel and gasoline fueled engines
- Maintains one of the Nation's largest LPG school bus fleets
- Ratio of fuels to vehicles: 60% propane, 35% diesel and 5% gasoline
- Have developed "Preventative Maintenance" guidelines that are tailored fit to each of our particular fuels and needs
- Performs 95% of repairs in-house, utilizing 75 employees, 9 service centers and a small fleet of service support vehicles
- Maintains roadside assistance for the Dallas County and surrounding area
- Utilizing an aggressive replacement schedule to lower the overall average age of its fleet
- Provides air conditioning and visual recording for student comfort and safety
- Active member of the 'Clean City Coalition' to reduce emissions in the D-FW air quality region
- Initial technical advisor and participant in the Adopt-A-School-Bus Program/ D-FW
- Dallas County Schools' Fleet Maintenance Department provides support for DCS' transportation services to increase safety, increase efficiency and minimize cost.
