"Creativity for the Courthouse" Art Contest
The idea for this contest was conceived over a year ago, when members the Dallas Bar Association (DBA) saw a need to brighten up the walls of the downtown courthouse buildings. The DBA quickly found a partner in Dallas County Schools (DCS) and our Board of Trustees President, Larry Duncan.
Over the next year, the DBA and DCS worked together to develop a theme and refine guidelines and criteria for the contest. The “Creativity for the Courts” art contest was designed to encourage students to learn and become enthusiastic about freedom, justice and the court system.
All schools within Dallas County were eligible to submit their artwork. Nearly 200 entries were received from 31 schools throughout the metroplex.
The pieces were judged on originality, creativity, artistic design and ability to incorporate theme. A 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner was selected for all three categories: Elementary School, Middle School and High School.
Winners were presented a medal, a certificate and a gift card to an art supply store, as well as a monetary award for their school’s art department.
